Marapi Volcano, which has a altitude of 2891 meters above sea level, administratively located on the area of Agam Regency and Batusangkar Regency, West Sumatra Province. The last eruption activity occurred on April 27, 2018 in the form of an ash eruption as high as 300 meters from the summit, the spread of thin ash fell to the Cubadak area of Tanah Datar Regency which was 12 km from the eruption center (Verbeek Crater). On May 2, 2018 at 07:03 WIB there was an eruption with a column height of 4000 meters from the peak, thick gray smoke, strong pressure, and the direction of the wind during the eruption towards the Southeast.

Recordings of seismicity on May 2, 2018 until 08:00 WIB, recorded 1 time eruption earthquake, 1 time local tectonic earthquake, 1 time Tornillo earthquake, and 2 times the Far Tectonic earthquake. Whereas the seismic record in the past week has recorded 1 eruption earthquake, 4 earthquake gusts, 7 times the deep volcanic earthquake, 5 times the local tectonic earthquake, and 7 times the far tectonic earthquake.

Coordination in the context of preparedness in the face of the Marapi volcanic eruption was conducted at the BPBD in Tanah Datar Regency and BPBD in Agam Regency, BMKG, and Airports in West Sumatra. Information on eruptions and altitude of ash has been reported through the VONA application as an early warning for flight safety.

The status of Volcano Marapi is still at the level of activity Beware (level II).

Recommendations People around Marapi volcano and visitors / tourists are not allowed to climb Marapi volcano at a radius of 3km from the crater / peak.
