The expedition to Semeru and excursions to Bromo and Kawah Ijen is from IDR 5.500.000 / person for a duration of 4 to 5 days. Attention the level of difficulty is high. The Ascension of Semeru and the excursion to Bromo (without the Ijen) is starting from IDR 3 800 000 / person. Below are the details.
The Semeru culminates at 3676 meters and it has the particularity to make an eruption every 30 minutes since 1968. Phenomenon rather unique of its kind because one can attend eruptions in relative safety.
The Bromo (2200m above sea level), the most visited and most photographed volcano in Indonesia. It is easily ranked among the top 5 things to see in the world, so the landscape is sublime and out of the ordinary.
Besides the active crater, Bromo also offers the view of the beautiful sunrise from Penanjakan’s point of view (2700m above sea level). Travelers will enjoy a variety of landscapes, from rainforest to savannah and the sea of sand, as well as the huge Tengger caldera.
And the Kawah Ijen, known for its blue fire, sulfur and sulfur porters. It rises to 2386m above sea level. It is also famous for its large emerald green acid lake.

Semeru – Bromo tour itinerary from Malang / Yogyakarta
1st Day
- A car with driver will pick you up in the morning at 7am in Malang (at your hotel, airport, … If you arrive the day before, we can book a room at Rani Homestay IDR 350 000 / room) to leave in a first time at the clinic (for the medical certificate) then go to Ranupani where the treking begins (about 1h30 of jeep).
- Departure of the hike after completing of formalities with the national park around 9am. You will have 3 hours of walk to Ranu Kumbolo Lake where you will have lunch and then another 2h walk to the Kalimati base camp where you will sleep and dine.
2nd Day
- Wake up at 00:30 am and take quick breakfast (hot tea and cookies) before you go to the summit of Semeru (it will take between 3 to 4 hours of a night climb in very tough trail).
- You will then descend to the base camp (1 to 2 hours) for a real breakfast, then to the Ranu Kumbolo lake (2 hours of walk + lunch) and Ranupani (3 hours of walk).
- From there, your jeep will take you to Bromo (Cemoro Lawang).
- You will spend the night at Guesthouse Gunung Bromo.
3rd Day
- Departure at 3am by Jeep for Mount Penanjakan and Bromo (45 min one-way trip by Jeep)
- At Mount Penanjakan (or King Kong Hill if clouds block the view at the top) your guide will take you a little away from the crowd, it will take a walk of about ten minutes in the forest. Once the sunrise is over, you will descend by Jeep to the Bromo crater.
- At Mount Bromo, you will have about 1 hour walk from the jeep parking to the summit of Bromo if the volcanic activity of Bromo allows (Friday, March 15, 2019 there was emission of ash, which indicates a probable eruption to come)
- Once you have visited Mount Bromo, you will go to the Warung Gunung Bromo to have your breakfast and then at 8:30 you will drive to the Probolinggo station (the train at 11:04 to Banyuwangi) or you will leave for Malang.

4th Day
- Departure at 1:30 am from Banyu Homestay to Paltuding (at the foot of Kawah Ijen) journey time around 1h30. Then with your guide you will go for Kawah Ijen trekking, you will go down in the crater (to try to observe the blue flames if the conditions allow it) then you will go up on the highest edge of the crater to have a point of view of Bali to the east and Raung to the west and down below a view of the largest lake of natural acid (about 3 hours walk round trip).
- Meet at 7:00 am in Paltuding for a departure to Banyu Homestay where you will have breakfast.
- Departure at 9:30 am for Banyuwangi Station and Ketapang – Banyuwangi Port to Bali – (30 min ride)
